Biblical Counseling

"I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another."
- Romans 15:14

What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical Counseling is pretty simple.

  • We believe that God created everything in the world--including us! That means that God knows everything about us. He has also revealed the most important facts about us in his Word.
  • We also believe that even though everything in the world was created good--everything we experience in life now has been impacted by sin. Nothing works the same way anymore. Us included!
  • Here's the good news. We believe that God sent his Son into the world to save sinners. Jesus came to bring dead people to life and to make broken people new. We have confidence that God is still in the business of changing lives. Come join us, and we'll show you!

We believe that God has given us everything in his Word to help us know how to live in the world he created. We believe that the Gospel really transforms lives. We believe that the local church is the best care community in the world.

Let us show you.

What do you offer?

Harbins Community Baptist Church offers counseling to the community. Counselors at Harbins have experience with many different types of personal issues. People receive counseling at Harbins for depression, anxiety, marital conflict, dating advice, premarital engagement, painful pasts, sexual addictions, and many more issues or situations.

What does counseling look like?

A typical counseling relationships begins with an intake form. That helps us know what is going on and how to provide the best care possible. Then, a counselor will reach out and schedule a time for an initial session. After that, the counselor should have a good idea about an expected length of the counseling relationship. Counseling sessions are very simple. We ask questions, listen to your story, and then see what God's Word has to say about your situation.

If you are interested in counseling, please know that we believe that the best care happens within the life of a local church. That means that we'll ask you to join us on Sunday mornings for worship during the duration of your care.

You say you offer "biblical counseling," does that mean you don't believe in science?

Not exactly. People have tried to answer the "big questions" about humanity for a long time. Although science has taught us a lot, much of what people believe about humanity is really just philosophy. Once you start moving out of the science lab and asking the big questions like, "Who am I?" and "Why am I here?", science is not very helpful.

We believe that, through the Bible, God has given us everything we need to understand why we are here and how we are to live according to his purposes for human beings. We pay attention to what people are saying in psychology and science, we just believe the Bible has better answers.

What do I have to pay?

We offer counseling services free to church members. We are more than happy to help non-members of Harbins, but know that we are spending our time and resources to help you. We appreciate donations to the church's counseling ministry to compensate for our time, but we won't require it.

Ok... I'm interested, what do I do next?
